Welcome to How We Connect, a simple way share genealogy research, methods, and ideas with others. I’ll share stories, projects, research ideas, recipes, and more. I started doing family research over 35 years ago and though the methods have been enhanced by digital availability, much of it is still the same. Research takes time and involves the sharing of information. I’ve found over the years that approaching family with a simple family tree is a good way of opening dialog about the family’s history, as well as, a valuable starting point.
Some of us are so out of touch with relatives, and I would like to change that one page at a time. During a visit to a family reunion once, I found myself very unfamiliar with the relatives and felt out of place because I didn’t know 90% of the participants. As the four-day event went on, it got better, and we started to connect the dots of how we were related. I began to feel that I belonged, and wanted the event to last longer. I will forever be grateful for that connection.
So, it’s important to know how we connect in any setting, to feel a since of belonging.
